The Health Literature, Library and Information Services (HELLIS) Network was established by WHO-SEARO in 1980 involving a few major health science libraries in region. At present, the Network has 10 HELLIS National Focal Point Libraries and 315 participating libraries in the countries of the Region. The HELLIS Network assisted the countries in the better use of existing information resources at the national and regional levels. The year 1980 was the beginning of computerization of libraries and information centres in the region, the HELLIS Network provided technical support to the SEAR countries by organizing training courses and workshops in abstracting, indexing and related areas
